New Bill Set To Modernise Employment Permits
The Government has announced that it will publish a new bill – the Employment Permits Bill – which aims to revamp and modernise the Employment Permit process including addressing issues around inflexibility in the current permits system.
The Bill, which is set to be published in Autumn, will:

Introduce a Seasonal Employment Permit to allow for permits to be granted to workers in sectors that require employees at certain times of the year.

Include an extensive revision of the labour market needs test to ensure it is more relevant and efficient.

Include salary thresholds to ensure wages are in line with salary increases in Ireland.
- Streamline a number of requirements to the permit granting process, making it more efficient and move operational criteria to Regulations.
- Include other conditions for the granting of a permit such as training and accommodation support for foreign workers.
Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022 Signed Into Law
In July, the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022 was enacted, which transposes the EU Directive on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law as well as an overhaul of the statutory framework for the protection of whistleblowers.
