Unions Demanding Bigger Pay Rises for Country’s Civil Servants
Fórsa, one of the country’s trade unions representing Civil Servants, has said the Government will face demands for bigger pay rises for the country’s 340,000 public servants. Talks on a new wage deal are due to take place in May.
Fórsa said that inflation has overtaken the wage deal negotiated in late 2020 that sees wages increase 3% over 2 years. It has stated that any new deal must reflect the current cost of living.
At its recent annual convention, ASTI members agreed to defer a proposal to ballot for industrial action in relation to pay. The union, which represents second-level teachers, is looking for substantial wage increases due to the increased cost of living.
