Did you know that 33% of Organisations in Ireland recognise their current Performance Management process is not working and plan to change that process in 2025?

In Adare’s most recent workplace survey, the HR Barometer Series 8.2, 86% of Organisations reported that they had a Performance Management process in place. This continued trend has jumped from 74% in 2022, to 83% in 2023 indicating that Organisations understand the importance of a formal Performance Management process.

But only 12% of Organisations found the process to be very effective.

Performance Management effectiveness must be reviewed regularly and is likely being impacted by changed working practices, management skills in communication, coaching and challenging constructively and articulating expectations and tracking progress.

The sudden drop in overall Performance Management effectiveness between 2022 and 2024 highlighting a harsh reality to Organisations. Careful planning and strategic thinking should be a core component at the beginning of implementing a new Performance Management process.

Performance Management Training Workshop

Organisations are recognising that employee satisfaction and retention are deeply tied to how their performance is managed. Changing frameworks to be more people-centred could improve overall employee engagement, retention, and productivity. This trend highlights a strategic shift towards performance management systems that are more dynamic, growth-oriented, and aligned with the future of work.

To support this need, as we start into the 2024 cycle of end of year reviews, Adare are delivering Management Training sessions dedicated to supporting and guiding managers through best practice models of performance management, having the “difficult conversations” and embedding performance as part of the culture of the organisation.

A key component of this training is to empower your People Managers ensuring they have the skills and confidence to be capable of dealing with performance management issues in the workplace when they arise as well as best practice management, as they are the front-line managers with the accountabilities of managing employees.
